Heal Your Body

In the last couple of years I’ve been on a journey to get to know more about my body, and to learn natural ways to support it. Essential oils have, of course, been a HUGE part of this journey. As has studying herbalism, traditional/folk medicine, and chakra/energy work. And I’m a nerd, so I’m constantly on the hunt for ALL THE BOOKS. Anyone who’s been to my apartment can attest to this.

About a year ago I picked up “Heal Your Body” by Louise Hay. It’s a tiny little book that lists physical issues in the body, gives possible metaphysical causes for them, and then offers healing affirmations in response. It’s a little too woo woo for some, and not enough woo for others, and I’ve personally found it to be fascinating. And so on the nose for me it’s almost scary.

An example…

I’ve got a handful of aches and pains that I try not to blame on the fact that I’m moving past my mid-thirties. Bad ankles, sore back and neck, sciatic pain and headaches during certain times of the month, tight shoulders, etc. I blame them on old injuries from cheerleading, on rocking a DD and above from age 12 on, on having difficult hormones, on the fact that I need a better mattress. You know, on life. I definitely keep the Panaway on hand at all times.

But one particularly achey day (I can predict the rain now, you know. Age has its uses.) I thought “why the hell not?” and looked up each and every complaint I had in that book. I started to notice a theme in the “causes” column. Nearly everything came back to fear. I felt things begin to get heavy so I grabbed a couple of grounding crystals (I told y’all. Woo.) and my bottle of Lavender, my go-to for comfort. A wise choice it turned out. Because as I wrote out the affirmations one by one, I starting weeping like a child.

“I am safe. I love and approve of myself. I trust life.”

“I am willing to change the patterns in me that created this condition. I love and approve of myself. I am safe.”

“My understanding is clear, and I am willing to change with the times. I am safe.”

“There is joy in every day. I am balanced and free.”

“I am in perfect balance. I move forward in life with ease and with joy at every age.”

“I move forward with confidence and joy, knowing that all is well in my future.”

“I trust the process of life. All I need is always taken care of. I am safe.”

I keep that page with me now. And I still can’t read it without crying. But it brings me a huge amount of comfort too, and the work I’ve done with these words has made a huge impact, not just on my physical wellbeing, but my state of mind as well.
